How I Started

Growing up, I always had a love for art. This became very evident in 5th grade when I decided to create a large painting of a vase of poinsettias for my art teacher at the time as a Christmas gift. During that year I also entered my first art competition and won. I got my piece of art inducted into the Columbia Children's Museum of Art! That accomplishment really solidified my passion for art. When heading into middle school I decided to audition for Rollings Middle School of the Arts art program and was accepted. Throughout middle school I learned much more about techniques and different mediums. Rollings was a very educational experience for me. However, after spending three years having deadlines and being required to create specified pieces of art and being graded on them I got a little sour towards art. Throughout highschool and for many years after I didn't create anything.

When 2020 rolled around and the pandemic began I found myself with a lot of free time at home and I had no idea how to spend it. I'd caught up on all of the shows I wanted to watch, gotten into a workout schedule, and redesigned my entire room when all of a sudden the thought of creating art came back into my mind. My best friend Vanessa's birthday was approaching so I asked her to name her favorite anime character and told her I would make her something. Little did I know that making that piece would completely reignite my love for art. After I finished her piece my artwork gained a lot more attention and I started accepting commissions. I stuck with doing commissions for around 2 years and then decided to take a break from them. My goal now is to cultivate my own unique style of art and create more original works.

What Inspires Me

I get a lot of my inspiration from my emotions. Anything that makes me really feel something gets my creative juices flowing. Right now, I've become very interested in manga/comic style drawing. I love the idea of conveying an entire story through limited words and pictures. So, when creating that kind of art movies, books, tv shows, and video games are all very good sources of inspiration for me. When I'm watching or reading something that gets me completely enamored by a character or by a plot line I get very inspired to try to create something like that myself.
